Filming a Science Fiction Movie under the focus of Outdoor Lighting

When the film Star Wars was first released in 1977 nobody could have predicted how popular the film was to become and that it would go down as perhaps one of the best films in science fiction. Following on from the first film (A New Hope) there has since been five others which have all been just as successful as the first one. All the films were shot at different locations using special effects some of which had never been tried before. The Star Wars saga is about the Galactic Civil War and the battle between good and evil. Luke Skywalker is a young farm boy and his fight against the Dark Lords of the Sith, Darth Vader and the dark side of evil has both adults and children glued to the cinema screen. Some of the films were filmed in Sydney, Australia and also Tunisia was used for filming scenes set on the desert planet Tatooine which features in Attack of the Clones, Revenge of the Sith, The Phantom Menace and A New Hope. Good lighting effects are often used within cinemas and products such as Murano chandeliers (italian-lighting-center.com/small-murano-chandeliers-s-1.html) sometimes used to enhance the ambiance within the cinema.

filming movie lighting outdoor
Without the use of outdoor lighting none of the special effects that has made this film so very popular, would have been possible. By using blue outdoor lighting it creates the impression of night time and for a sunrise or sunset a red or orange light can be used. Lights can be used to draw attention to certain objects on a set or to alter the mood of a scene. By using soft lavender light the impression of calm is created while for a totally different effect a red light might be used. The space ships in Star Wars looked so realistic because of the outdoor lighting which was used to get the special effect needed. Outdoor garden lights were also used to illuminate the battle on the ground between the two forces of good and evil.

Since the Star Wars movie there have been many other science fiction films which have all had to rely on outdoor garden lights and outdoor lighting to get the special effects needed in these films. Years ago all films were shot inside the studio and to make the images look more realistic actors would rely on props such as artificial scenery and special sound effects. Special effects now mean something all together different. The use of lighting design helps to set the mood and is a form of art and to create a sky scene of the stars and moon gobos are used. There are many different types of outdoor lighting that can be used while filming a science fiction movie to create the desired effect and today's films have even bigger and better special effects than what the first Star Wars movie had. However, Star Wars is a film which once seen nobody can ever forget. Adults will still remember perhaps first seeing it has a child and will enjoy taking their own children to see the film.

Since the first Star Wars film was released there have been books, toys and games and re-releases on DVD. Special effects in movies has come a long way and it is hard to believe sometimes when watching a science fiction film that it is only make believe. Without the aid of outdoor lighting and outdoor garden lights it just wouldn't be possible to get the same effects.
