Science Fiction  Site Experiences Expired Domain

www
Star Wars is a classic saga that has encased the entire world in its drama. The original Star Wars began as a simple movie but soon grew to include action figures, costumes, fantasies and a trilogy that Science Fiction lovers simply cannot live without. There are currently thousands of websites online where one could find Star Wars memorabilia and information. Luke Skywalker is one of the most famed characters of all movies in history. Imagine heading off to your favorite Star Wars site only to find that the science fiction site that you know and love so well has experienced a problem with an expired domain.

An expired domain means that the site owner or domain name owner has forgotten or chosen not to renew the domain name. This one act leaves thousands of frequent visitors without their daily fix of Darth Vader.

Deleted domains are a common occurrence on the internet. For whatever reason, be it loss of interest, financial problems or sheer forgetfulness, domain name owners allow their domains to be deleted from the database and thus lose their ability to make sales or provide information to their visitors. The problem with expired domains is that the site is no longer available for visitors to browse. This can be a real problem for someone who owns a Star Wars site and relies on that site to sell memorabilia to visitors. Without the site’s ability to be found on the internet, the site owner has no way of reaching visitors with his goods, thus resulting in no monetary compensation for his time.

Expired domains are an everyday occurrence due to whatever reason, and many site owners soon find themselves without the domain name that they have worked so hard to build. When a website has been live for years, it likely will build up backlinks and strong returning traffic, not to mention a good reputation with the search engines and perhaps even a strong pagerank. When the domain name expires, the website owner loses all the hard work that they have put forward to build that site. If the current owner does not renew a domain in a reasonable amount of time, a new owner may purchase the domain name and the previous owner is simply out of luck.

Imagine this scenario. A man decides to capitalize on the ongoing popularity of the Star Wars craze. He builds his site from scratch, making sure to monetize it with memorabilia for sale and even by selling ad space. Then one day he simply forgets to renew his domain name registration. For years, he has been building backlinks, advertising his site and making sure that this site is optimized to the greatest level for search engine awareness. The one simple act of forgetting to renew his domain name has led to a deleted domain. Once deleted, the domain is purchased by someone else. This new owner now has a dot com with strong keywords that is easy to find on the internet. All the backlinks are still in place, the search engines love the site and it shows a strong pagerank. Now the new owner has instantly given himself a successful website and the previous owner has put all those years of hard work into the site only to have it snatched from him simply because he neglected to renew his domain. This happens every day on the internet and there are many people just waiting to snatch that valuable domain name as soon as it becomes available. The best rule of thumb is to never let your valuable domain expire or if it does for whatever reason, be sure to be the first one in line to snatch it back up.
